This paper deals with the use of Whispering Gallery Modes to measure six components an homogeneous strain tensor within a sphere undergoing uniform field. The device is silica in which WGMs resonate, describing circles positioned on sphere’s surface planes perpendicular normals dodecahedron. direct model relating resonant wavelength variation established for one circle and then linearised accordance intended application, i.e. realisation sensor. expressions are generalised inverse system computed obtain expression field as function shifts WGMs. Finally, theoretical performances sensor assessed. study shows that using conventional 1 pm resolution detector, uncertainty is, after correction systematic errors, equal 2με.
